How Mixed Methods Can Improve The Effectiveness Of Research Creative Writing

Discussion Thread: Mixed Methods Writing Exercise and Peer Feedback

Report the research questions and hypotheses for both qualitative and quantitative methods.

Today, more than 104 million Americans have contracted the Covid-19 virus, mainly during the most virulent part of the global pandemic (Covid Data Tracker, 2023). Although the pandemic is officially over, about one in four Americans, or approximately 26 million people, who contracted Covid-19 still suffer from what has been termed long Covid-19. Because more research is still needed to identify the cause of long Covid-19 and how its symptoms can be treated effectively, it is important to learn as much about the condition as possible. To this end, a qualitative and quantitative research question that can guide such a study include the following:

Qualitative: How do people with long Covid-19 perceive their quality of life? It is hypothesized the people with long Covid-19 perceive their quality life as severely diminished compared to their condition prior to contract the disease.

Quantitative: What is the impact of long Covid-19 on their daily activities and emotional well-being? It is hypothesized that the impact of long Covid-19 will have a measurable impact on sufferers daily activities and emotional well-being.

Describe how the strands will be connected.

The matrix format will provide the ability to compare and contrast the qualitative and quantitative data, thereby making it easier to identify any key patterns or discrepancies across the qualitative and quantitative data sources.

Describe how the results will be reported, validated, and interpreted by both qualitative both quantitative methods.

The findings that emerge from this study will be interpreted and reported by the principal researcher but the findings will also be reviewed by peers and faculty members to ensure its accuracy and appropriateness of design. In addition, using the above-described matrix to synthesize the data will…

Mixed Methods Study Design What's Wrong with Mixed Methodology Morris and Burkett (2011) witnessed the relatively recent emergence of what has been called "mixed methods" research. A study using a mixed methods design would meet both quantitative and qualitative evaluative criteria. From the author's perspective and that of others cited in their publication, quantitative and qualitative research designs are effectively mutually exclusive. The only concession that Morris and Burkett (2011) seemed to

Said factors certainly do nothing to discredit the relevance of this tool's use in qualitative research, but they do suggest that such research methodology may well be complimented by the implementation of additional data-gathering methods that is driven by quantitative measure. Namely, it should be seen as a primary benefit of the questionnaire that its ergonometry of inquiries should serve in a degree as a means to internal variable control.
