MATH - Measurement, Geometry, Representation Part A

A standard unit of measurement offers a point of reference by which items of weight, length, or capacity can be delineated. It is a quantifiable semantic that aids every individual comprehend the relation of the object with the measurement. For instance, volume can be expressed in metrics such as gallons, ounces, and pints. On the other hand, a non-standard unit of measurement is something that might fluctuate or change in terms of weight or length. The item that was measured is a door as this is an object that can be found in everyday life. Through the use of standard units of measurement, I found that the door is equivalent to 2 meters or 200 centimeters in length. This particular standard measure was used for the reason that it is possible to utilize it using items including tape measures. On the other hand, with respect to non-standard units of measurement, I used hand spans to determine the length of the door. I established that the door is equivalent to 10 hand spans. This non-standard measure was used for the reason that it is significantly easier to use and simple to measure with. The key difference...

This is in the sense that someone with a smaller hand, for instance a child, will have shorter lengths of hand spans and therefore will find the door to be measured by more than 10 hand spans. Therefore, it is not reliable or constant to utilize this as a metric. On the other hand, the standard unit of measurement is universal and will bring about the same results of 2 meters if measured by a different individual (Morin, 2018).

The van Hiele theory can be used to promote the understanding of geometry for Pre-K 6 students. Levels 0 -2 for the theory comprise of visualization, analysis, and abstraction. It is imperative to note that every level within the theory encompasses its own symbols and language. In order to increase the learning and understanding of geometry, it is advisable for the students to follow the hierarchical order of the levels. Level 0 is visualization. At this particular level, the student can make use of visual perception together with non-verbal thinking. In…

This has had the unintended consequence of increasing the dropout rate, as students who fail to perform and to be promoted leave the schools altogether. Many good, creative teachers also drop out, frustrated with the stringent controls placed upon their teaching style. ELL (English Language Learner) students are at a particular disadvantage for taking standardized tests, given the frequently arcane wording of the exams. The tests are often poorly written,

Cognitive Development: Jean Piaget Jean Piaget was intrigued with the reasons children gave to justify their incorrect answers to questions that called for the application of logic. He interpreted these as symbols indicating just how differently adults and children think. In his view, a child's thinking is influenced by the experiences they have with their environment and how mature their biological system is. Towards this end, a child will often
