Teachers are pivotal towards impacting knowledge to students thus, the effectiveness of a teacher yields to higher performance amongst students (Russell, Waters, & Turner, 2013). The effectiveness of a teacher that yields quality performance among students is not necessarily possession of a teaching certificate. Rather, the assignment of a teacher to teach within their subject field is ideal to achieve the desirable outcome in informing students sufficiently.

Certification and ideal assignment of a teacher to their subject field will ensure that teachers competently deliver the related knowledge to students without much dependence on textbooks. Different states have different measures to evaluate a teacher's effectiveness in the delivery of knowledge and their competencies in the subject matter. It is however noted that the methods used in teachers competence and knowledge testing in the majority of the states are inadequate (Russell et al., 2013).

In situations where there is a diverse student population, the teacher ought to be aware of their backgrounds and those of students and find a way to utilize the differences and similarities. This would factor in inclusivity in the classroom and a positive learning environment. Sufficient support for teachers is very important especially in hard to teach classes (Russell et al., 2013). The preparation of teaching materials and lessons should focus more on improving the student's learning experience and be responsive to situations for familiarity and comfort to students.

Clear goals in the preparation of lesson plans ought to be evident for effective teaching in civic education. The goals should broadly attend to the course requirement as well as be intertwined to facilitate effective and positive learning outcomes. In civic education, it is notable that learning goals are diverse and broad. It is advisable to come up with different measures of articulating to the goals in a manner that is responsive to the learner's situation.

For class preparedness in the delivery of lessons in social studies, it is ideal to ensure that the assigned subjects for teaching are aligned with the field of study. This will contribute to efficiency in the delivery of knowledge and ideal performance from students. In the delivery of knowledge, the teacher will also seek to ensure that the lesson planning is responsive to the situation of the students and the surrounding environment.
