24). In order to speak specifically to grade level, the process standards were broken down by grade spans. The middle school grades were represented by standards 5-8, as these are commonly the grades that represent middle school. This presentation of process standards specifically presented by grade levels were called content standards. These were updated in 2000 as well. The 1989 content standards included the following ten standards: number and number relationships, number systems and theory, computation and estimation, patterns and functions, algebra, statistics, probability, geometry, and measurement. In 2000, those ten standards continued to be fully represented, however they were pared down to five areas: number and operations, algebra, geometry, measurement, and data analysis (Krulic, 2003, p. 21). Major changes occurred...
One major change was a shift in the attitude and expectations for computations. Though computations were still taught, they were no longer taught until mastery in lieu of higher level concepts, as had been done in the past (Krulic, 2003, p. 25). Arguably the largest change was the degree to which algebra was being included (krulic, 2003, p. 26). The updates in 2000 hoped to provide students a new way of thinking about mathematics, rather than simply focusing on rote memorization and answers. For instance, classical mathematicians by definition rely on Plato's theory of forms as the underlying basis of their mathematical worldview. The Platonist assumes the existence of true, immutable, and universal forms and structures that the mathematician approaches through the language of numbers and equations. For instance, the classical mathematician holds to the Platonic belief in the expansion of pi; to approach the expansion of pi from any other perspective
An article by Bernard Stahl, "The responsible company of the future: reflective responsibility in business," that the one thing that is certain about the future is its uncertainty. While uncertainty has always been a constant of human life, due to technological and social developments, risk and uncertainty are going to be defining features that future companies of the future will have to face. Acting responsibly will allow companies to
The Life, Times and Influence of Leonardo Da VinciThe artist who created the most famous painting in the world, the Mona Lisa, was so brilliant and versatile that some observers today believe he may have been an alien visitor from an advanced civilization. While there is no evidence of this, given da Vincis massive contributions to multiple fields of discipline and legacy as the worlds greatest Renaissance Man, it is
Films and Directors of the French New Wave Movement Discuss the male/female relationship in the Umbrellas of Cherbourg, My Night at Maud's, Le boucher Shoot the Piano Player regards to the Nouvelle Vague. La Nouvelle Vague, or the "New Wave," is a term given by film critics in the late 1950's to a cluster of French filmmakers who began a movement that rejected classical cinema to introduce new perspectives of romantic youthfulness.
Effects of Screen Time on ChildrenIntroductionWhat do we know about the effects of screen time use of smartphones, tablets and game consoles, among children ages 10 to 15 and academic achievement? This literature review intends to answer that question.Screen time may affect children in different ways for a variety of reasons. The content of screen time can vary widely, from educational programs to violent video games to social media platforms
It is so much a copy that one could call it a clone of the original; in other words, it is a second original. If matter were to be thus transported, then we would have two of the original objects, should one be transported. Alternative theories, based on the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, would be best followed up, if matter is the stuff which one wants to transport. The Heisenberg Principle
