III. PUBLIC SECTOR'S RESPONSIBILITIES
The critical incident management plan is important in the community response provided and this includes the response of emergency responders, police officers, the fire departments as well as others who are involved in such plans. The first duty of the public sector is to maintain community safety. (Jones, Kowalk and Miller, 2000) It is important that the critical incident management plan "define situations where public policy or legal mandates require public sector intervention even though the private sector has ample resources to handle the event." (Jones, Kowalk and Miller, 2000)
IV. THE INCIDENT COMMAND SYSTEM (ICS)
The incident command system (ICS) has been adopted by many jurisdictions and endorsed by law enforcement and fire services. ICS is stated to establish "an organized and structured approach to taking charge of a critical incident and coordinating resources to resolve the matter." (Jones, Kowalk and Miller, 2000) Joint planning is necessary to "ensure that the incident commander is aware of all available private/public resources." (Jones, Kowalk and Miller, 2000) The plan requires...
Stress Management: Nuclear Energy Institute Nuclear energy has been heralded as one of man's greatest blessings. It has the ability to supply affordable energy to millions of citizens, solving some of the nation's most critical energy needs. Under normal circumstances, nuclear energy is safe and reliable. Plants have numerous protocols in place to assure that it remains that way. However, nuclear energy also has a dark side and the potential
Stress Management Since the September 11th terrorist attacks, the possibility of an assault on a nuclear facility has been increasingly brought to the forefront. Part of the reason for this, is because many of these locations are considered to be an easy target. As a result, the industry has been working on establishing a critical incident stress management (CISM) program to deal with these underlying challenges. To fully understand how
CISM in the Event of a Terrorist Attack on a Nuclear Facility This research explores the impact of mental stresses experience by workers at a nuclear power plant during and after a critical incident. Concerns over critical incidents at nuclear facilities has caused public fear that was exasperated during the Three Mile Island incident. The dangers of nuclear power and radiation exposure are embedded in modern culture and have been since
NIMS Course and Critical Incident ScenarioEmergencies cause disruptions in case they occur during an event, and in such cases, the organized teams are called upon to assist. The management of such incidents requires that that should be prior preparation so that all such kinds of scenarios can be managed. This means that an incident management system should be considered, and in this case, National Incident Management System should be utilized.
Compassion Fatigue and Secondary Trauma It is now six months after the attack on the nuclear power facility and low level radiation release. The critical incident stress management plan has been an affect and long-term intervention strategies are now in place. However, it is now time to consider the effects of long-term stress from managing those that have stress related to the critical incident. This research will consider the effects of
