Lesson Plan The purpose of this project is to provide ESL students an opportunity to learn enhanced listening skills. These skills, once they are acquired, will assist the students in assimilating into the American culture through the use of language which contains a means for communicating in a comprehensive and understandable manner.

Many times ESL students are overwhelmed with information that could help them, but with which they have difficulty due to the fact that they have not acquired the listening skills which will help them in the classroom, and in the society in which they have chosen (or their parents chose) to interact. Being a new student can oftentimes be a harrowing experience, and when it is coupled with the fact that the new student is also new to the country, this scenario can become further complicated causing even more difficulty for the student. It is hoped that by doing so, some of the pressure to become acclimated to the educational environment with which these students must interact will become a less demanding scenario. In addition, the learning of these skills will assist these students in not only becoming acclimated, but will also assist them in learning and comprehending the English language in a shorter and more timely manner.
