Lesson Plan And Students Dissertation

Lesson Plan Using Understanding by Design Framework A creative approach is critical in embedding innovative problem solving, embedding opportunity for inquiry as well as enhancing critical thinking for deep discipline knowledge. When curriculum is to be coherent, and cohesive across multiple grades, the assessment protocols should establish the degree of success and integrate the curricular unit to enhance the desired learning outcomes. The UbD provides an effective framework that assists in addressing the aforementioned key issues. In the U.S. educational system, successful learning outcome requires an integration of meaningful assessment, and contents coupled with effective pedagogy. However, the ability to develop cohesive and coherent curriculum has become overwhelming to experienced school teachers, obviously, the issue creates a barrier to student's efficient learning. Thus, UbD (Understanding by Design) has been identified as the effective tool that overcomes these barriers by providing practical and concise guidance for both inexperienced and experienced teachers. Typically, the UbD plan is to assist students to act and think like scientists using the principles outlined in the UbD to describe the useful and practical design process to identify evidence for effective learning outcomes. Moreover, UbD provides an effective procedure to avoid teaching content "overload by focusing on enduring principles." (Roth, 2007 p 95). In essence, the UBD is used to facilitate the state educational standards, and promoting self-directed teaching and life-long learning.

The purpose of this project is to develop a lesson plan for the educators of 11th grade and 12th-grade students of Fairfax County School using the UbD framework.

Aims & Objectives:

• To assist 11th and 12th-grade students to enhance career decision making by utilizing a career and language curriculum plan that guides and links assessments to instruction through strategic literacy exercises.

• To assist educators, and the users of this...

The effect of the lesson plan is also to assist the teachers in clarifying learning goals and devise assessment strategy to enhance students' understanding as well as crafting effective learning activities. Moreover, the Understanding by Design will be used in deepening and developing students understanding. Essentially, students will be able to demonstrate their understanding when presenting with authentic, complex and opportunities to apply, and explain effective teaching contexts. The UbD will also enhance the students' performances through regular students' works and results. Teachers will be more effective when receiving feedback from students, which will help them adjusting teaching approach and design. The end results of the plan are also to make schools, teachers and district benefits by working harder and smarter through a collaborative sharing, and design peer review.
The UbD framework will also assist in offering a planning structure and process to guide assessment, curriculum and instructions. Thus, the lesson plan will assist teachers to focus on teaching because learning is enhanced when teachers are able to think purposefully with regards to the curricular planning. Thus, the UbD framework will be able to help teachers with curriculum planning without going through the rigid process. The effect of the lesson plan is to help in focusing teaching and curriculum which will assist in deepening and development of student's understanding as well as transfer the learning process coupled with the…
