Learner-Centered Education And Ways That Term Paper

Significant as so many of these subjective decisions are, they would benefit from a history of self-reflection and continuous learning. Learner-centered principles has both its advantages and disadvantages where disadvantages include the student misinterpreting the transmitted knowledge and diminishing the importance of classical wisdom by insisting that one's own reflections were superior to that taught. Taken to an extreme, this can result in negative health and life-impacting casualties. Advantages, however, are numerous and include the fact that the knowledge becomes more vibrant, immediate, and easily accessible, aside from the aspect that new perspectives can be channeled in nursing and erroneous data discovered, challenged, and replaced. The nursing profession, thereby, turns from an overburdened collector of tired knowledge to one that is consciously fresh since sifting through that knowledge and working through new ways of thinking is an unceasing, indefatigable task.

More so, students will be expected to expect to effectively work with a multidisciplinary healthcare team in their provision of nursing care (NMC, 2004). Acquisition of critical thinking compels nurses to investigate and acquire the vocabulary, knowledge, and understanding...

Instead of nurses practicing the skills in a robotic manner, they are now 'inside' the knowledge, which helps them reach their own conclusions. Maintaining a learner-centered stance, in short, can provide nurses with fruitful habits of mind, attitudes, and skills. It makes nurse more independent, self-learning, and professional.
