The competencies important for successful modern leaders are Social Intelligence (SI), Emotional Intelligence (EI), Honesty, Transparency, Decisiveness, Curiosity, and Influence. Each of these is an essential characteristic of effective leaders. SI is good because it allows leaders to assess a social situation and see how it functions so that they can play to its strengths and develop its weaknesses. EI is good for helping a leader to be sensitive to others and to understand emotional cues that followers give. Honesty is important because without it there can be no trust. Transparency further helps to support trust among workers by showing there is nothing to hide. Decisiveness allows decisions to be made in a quick and efficient manner so that nothing gets too tied up in development. Curiosity is a great characteristic because it prompts leaders to always question to see how their organization could grow and develop still further. Influence is also necessary because if a leader cannot influence others, there will be no one who will actually follow him.

Since my mission statement is to always excel even in those areas that are new and foreign to me, I am determined to put my best foot forward and learn from mistakes so that I can grow into a competent leader. In vast organizations, the average human being can become lost amid all the different aspects of the firm or school. Therefore it is important that a leader be able to step up and make himself visible to all and hold himself accountable so that he shines as an example for those around for what is expected of them and for how they should strive hard to be successful.…
