Leadership Over The Last Several Years, Facebook Essay

¶ … Leadership Over the last several years, Facebook has become one way that people with similar interests are able to connect with each others from around the world. This is because the site is based off of two different concepts: social networking and social browsing. Social networking is when you are connecting with different friends that you meet in: real life or online. As people will, chat and discuss similar interests that they have, in a circle of associates called Facebook Friends. The idea is to take the concept of: socialization and make it even more personal. Social browsing is when you are on Facebook and are searching for new friends / groups to associate with. These different elements are important, because they are showing how Facebook has been able to transform the way that people interact with each other on a daily basis. However, the tremendous amounts of the success that the company has had, means that they could become the victim of their own success. As changes in technology, could make the social networking site a relic of the past, unless it keeps up these changes that are taking place. A good example of this can be seen with My Space. They were one of the first social networking sites to emerge and had a large market following in 2006 among: young adults as well as teenagers. Yet, beneath the surface Facebook was quickly gaining ground among this competitor. (Perez, 2006) This is important, because it shows how changes and new entrants into the industry could create...

As a result, the company needs to have an effective leadership development strategy, to prevent a sense of complacency in the workplace. To achieve this objective, means creating a plan that will: effectively implement this program and ensure that it can adapt to the challenges the company is facing in the future.
Developing and Maintaining an Effective Leadership Program

In order for Facebook to be successful, means that they must utilize a strategy that takes into account the core principals of leadership. These include: embracing discipline, having a willingness to change and creating a sense of excitement. Embracing discipline is when everyone understands that they are playing vital role in: the organization's success and that they all must do their part to maintain these levels. This means that everyone must be: focused and willing to work when others may not want to. At the same time, they need to concentrate on: doing the best job possible for all users, while ensuring that there are limited down times and blackouts for the site. This is important, because having discipline will help to give the organization a sense of purpose, as everyone's willingness to do more: is building the confidence of the public in Facebook. Once this take place, it means that their overall popularity will continue to grow. ("How to Develop Good Leadership Skills," 2010)

Having a willingness to change is when managers must be able to adapt to shifts that are occurring inside the industry.…
