Leadership Development Challenges faced by Barton

Barton is the senior vice president of human resources in Zendal pharmaceuticals .She had turned in her budget as she did routinely to her boss Palmer. However, the papers had been returned to her, and she noted that her proposed executive education had been cut by almost 75%.she took it as a mistake and decided to approach her boss on the issue. Her boss however said that there was no mistake in the revision claiming that there were orders given to cut down the following year's budget by 20%. Palmer said that recession had made their sales drop and due to their numerous debts they had to cut down on budgets so it was not Barton's budget being cut only (Kesner, 2010).

Palmer gave Barton a condition that she had to satisfy before he made any consideration on the revision he had done of Baron's budget. This was if she could present data which shows how executive education adds to the bottom line of the company. Barton was certain that the program that she wanted to adopt from the funds she had indicated in the budget would benefit the company....

However, Palmer did not think so as he only viewed the education of executives as comprising of fun and games and little education. It was a challenge for Barton to try and make Palmer understand the advantages of executive education. It was also a great challenge for Baron to find a way of approaching Palmer on the issue.
Viewpoints and recommendations to go by I agree with the fact that Zendal can be able to continue with its learning culture and leadership development even with the recession. This is because a company like Dreyer's had been faced by a crisis but still afforded to invest in the leadership University of the Company which was a demonstration that the president cared about development of people. Therefore, the company through the leadership development had taken a position as a market leader two years after the investment. If she used this story on Palmer then maybe it would make him change his mind (Executive Education, 2013).

Another recommendation is what Freitas gave to Barton concerning how he would deal with the issue. Freitas suggested that she works on every angle she…
