Leadership Application

Mr. Smith has been the president of our social club for a very long time. He has been reelected as the president unanimously for more than three times since he started his term. The reason as to why he has held this position is because of his effective leadership.

Leadership traits

There are various traits that he holds which have made him an effective leader for this entire while. These traits include vision; he is a visionary leader. He looks forward to the future of the club with a lot of expectations. He has envisioned the club to be a success and attain a significant growth. He has an idea of the club which is clear and exciting of where the club is headed and at the same time try to accomplish the goals of the club. Secondly he is a courageous leader. This means that he is always willing to take risks for the club so as to achieve the specific goals the club intends to achieve. He is also full of integrity; he is honest in all that he does both internally and externally. He is a truthful leader and therefore the rest of the management as well as members of the club have built their trust on him.

He also has good communication skills; he has the ability of speaking to stakeholders of the club effectively. Depending on the audience that he is addressing, he is able to communicate effectively according to the specific needs of that particular audience. He is also a persistent leader; he keeps trying in difficult situations until he achieves what he wants to archive. He is also a leader who is focused; he focuses on the needs of the club. He focuses on the results that are expected from the club, this entails what must be achieved by him as a leader, by members of the club and by the entire club in general. He bases his focus on the strengths of the club, in himself and the rest of the club members. He also fosters cooperation among the members of the club. He ensures that everyone is working together so as to bring success to the club. This ensures that people work in harmony with the goals of the club as their main focus. He makes all other members of the club feel important. His goals and decisions as the president of the club are not self-centered and therefore the members still remain enthusiastic (University of Missouri, 2010).

Leadership style

His leadership style is similar to some of the leadership styles that have been learnt. He is a leader who takes part in the activities of the club together with other club members. He simply does not guide the rest of the members but he also participates with others as well as allowing input from other members of the club. This style of leadership that he uses is similar to the participative leadership (Cherry, 2010).

He also ensures that he rewards any member that has performed well in the specific responsibility given to them. He ensures that he clearly sets out the roles of every member of the club and monitor if they execute the responsibility effectively. This is similar to the transactional leadership style.
