The IOM report had an impact on nursing education by transforming the focus. This is occurring by concentrating on a number of different areas to include: basic standards and continuing education. Altering the basic standards is when there is focus on how to attract and retain more graduates. What the report found is that there should be a number of tools used in conjunction with each other to include: loan forgiveness, scholarships and special awards. These techniques will increase the amount of candidates who qualify. Over the course of time, this ensures that the health care system has enough nurses to address the needs of patients. Continuing education is an important part of helping to improve professionalism. This is because everyone will learn about new procedures and how to utilize them.
