As a nurse practitioner, analyzing opportunities to improve patient experience, organizational effectiveness, and community influence is ongoing. This process is critical for all nurse practitioners including family nurse practitioners (FNPs) both as owners and contracted employees. FNPs are essentially nurse practitioners who are trained with a holistic approach to care to not only care for the whole individual but also support his/her total patient experience. As a family nurse practitioner, there are some measures that could help improve patient experience, organizational effectiveness, and community influence in settings as an owner or employee. One of the ideas to achieve this is a high level of coordination that helps improve overall care. The high level of coordination would entail FNPs providing continuity of care and acting as the point of contact for multidisciplinary teams. Secondly, FNPs should provide equivalent primary care at the first point of contact with patients. By providing such care at the first point of contact, a family nurse practitioner improves patient experience and organizational effectiveness through enhancing the quality of care while lessening consultation/wait times. In addition, this would help overcome the primary care shortage by promoting coordinated, team-based care (Sarzynski, 2019). The other way of achieving these dimensions is for FNPs to develop relationships with patients in order to develop patient confidence and trust.
These measures are innovative as they would help ensure that FNPs practice at their full scope. When family nurse practitioners carry out their responsibilities at the full extent of their education, training and scope of practice, the quality of care improves resulting in better patient experience, organizational effectiveness, and community influence. Additionally, the measures are innovative since they promote nurse practitioner-led care, which is associated with enhanced patient satisfaction (Smigorowsky et al., 2019).
