MAT Review (Entwistle) Text
Integrative Approaches to Psychology and Christianity enabled me to gain an understanding and appreciate the previous manifestations of psychology and theology. The text demonstrated the religion and assurance that psychology and Christianity ought to pool for it to have a greater understanding and sanctioning the client a greater likelihood of healing. In order to undertake this, there ought to be an all-inclusive understanding of every component in and of itself. As Entwistle (2010) opined, the text offered all the evidences from account as it has fashioned society in these times. As Entwistle (2010) revealed these historic happenings, it displays how the information in the present day might be a replication or response of what transpired or materialized then. Christianity has consistently had a vast influence on world history and the manner in which the earth is regarded. The author makes it very apparent that God offers human beings actuality and righteousness in His Word and thus the world in turn " ... [places] the book of God's Word over the book of God's Works ... " (Entwistle, 2010, p. 145).
The world of the Lord comes from the biblical scripture that God created to offer guidance to humankind to live in the righteous manner that God intended to be fitting for man. Theology as well as psychology do not seem to have compatibility. Nonetheless, they are akin when it takes into consideration the knowledge and understanding that helps an individual's life to have more meaning. The world is full of persons that have numerous capabilities and talents to share. God created human beings in His image and likeness, and for that reason that makes each individual unique and distinctive is his or her own way. Each and every one of us has things of his or her own to give as contribution and thus share with the world around us. Both psychology and theology are sincerely and intently employed in human nature and human purpose. The author of the book identifies within the context that there no differences between the person who is deemed holy and the person who is deemed worldly with respect to the truth. There is the existence of both good and evil within the hearts of humankind, this is in man's nature. We as human beings are all born into sin and therefore sinning is something that is inexorable to us.
When writing the text, the author makes a practical and rational argument. The integration of theology together with psychology aims for a proper arrangement in assisting individuals with a variety of issues and understanding that "all truth is God's truth" (Entwistle, 2010, p.13). He lays emphasis on the extent within the ever-changing world outlooks concerning the concluding portion of the text and the author even offers an illustration for everyone to track. It would be accommodating when relieving clients or everyday collaboration with others. The exercise of incorporating the methods between psychology and Christianity is the outcome that has engaged comprehensive input from psychology and the actuality that God has given to humanity. In support of this, Entwistle writes "How can the Bible be used in counseling as a means of bringing truth, repentance, and reconciliation" (p. 145). The philosophies, world understanding and sinful purposes that are recognized all over the society can provide certain hindrances for the combination of psychology and Christianity from personal and corporate understandings. The key objective of worldly psychology and Christianity is to help individuals to succeed over any difficulties or conditions in their lives. Any beneficiaries of the secularisms and Christianity itself have a duty to look beyond their images and aim the mission that aids mankind through the difficult periods in their lives. The solicitation of theology and psychology will produce miracles in the lives of people.
The philosophies, worldviews and sinful intents recognized and acknowledged across the society can bring about certain hindrances for the mixture of Christianity and psychology form personal as well as corporate standpoints. The key objective of Christianity and psychology that is secular is to help individuals to overcome and win through any issues or situations in their lives. Any beneficiaries of the secularisms and Christianity itself are supposed to look beyond and further than their representations and aim towards the undertaking that assists man during the course of the worrying and troubling periods in their lives. The use of theology and psychology will bring about miracles in person's lives. It seems as if the objective of this book is to source worldwide steerage in the direction of the progression of humankind's general state of existence.
Concrete Responses
The information that I attained from this text aided me in putting pieces together which are in relation to the kind of marriage that my parents had. Psychology makes an attempt to elucidate and shed light on why we as human being do the actions and deeds that we do to one another. On the other hand, Christianity displays to us the manner in which God intends us to treat one another. The Lord God offers us a much better way.
When I take a look back to what I perceived when I was a young child during the course of my parents' marriage and the divorce that ensued is that God was in fact inside and at the center of our household as the relationship that they had was quite resilient. At the time when they stopped letting God be at the midst of our home and our lives, then their relationship and eventually their marriage came to an end and they divorced. The outcome and emotional trauma that came about from this separation continues to haunt me as well as my siblings up until this very day.
At that point, in time, my parents desperately needed psychosomatic and divine support that was not accessible to them. I can recall my mother asserting that she had the feeling that the church had neglected and given up on them especially when they needed them the most. Once the divorce was final, our household went in separation with the church and it took several years before our family made the decision to seek out a new church once again.
My perception is that we as a society have come to have a better understanding and are presently more aware. What is more, when one gains more understanding, then he or she will have better deeds. At the present moment, there is more divine and psychosomatic support given to families which are undergoing crises and issues in the contemporary. Now I am able to perceive the great value and purpose of what I want to undertake as a profession and the manner in which I propose to help families.
