¶ … Hispanic Readers Since the invention of the printed press, people have relied on newspapers and magazines to give them information they need. In the present moment, there are so many ways that people can get that information that the business of magazines and newspaper subscription has become very competitive. Because of this, the magazine industry has modified itself to make sure that it appeals to their target audience. In the case of Hispanic readers, magazine writers and editors try to convince them to purchase their magazine by making appeals to their heritage. In the year 2006, a market research company named Syvonate conducted a survey at the joint request of the Magazine Publishers of America and the Hispanic Magazine Coalition. The researchers surveyed more than 900 Hispanic consumers. They asked the people in the survey what kinds of advertisement most appeal to them and has the most effect on them. They also asked what type of delivery of information they most preferred. The results of the survey...

Syvonate determined that the majority of Hispanic consumers preferred magazine articles than any other form of information delivery because they felt more emotionally and socially connected to the article than other formats.

Her story is less well-known to the English speaking population of the United States, although Selena did have a crossover hit and was the feature of a major motion picture starring Jennifer Lopez. A much larger percentage of Hispanic-Americans would know Selena, her music, and the tragic way her life ended. Having Selena on the cover of TV Guide makes an immediate appeal to the Hispanic population. Featuring this woman informs the Hispanic readership that something inside the magazine will involve their popular culture.
