Stem Essay
As the newly elected head of the Department of Environmental Protection in New York City, my mission is to use the power of STEM to spearhead an ambitious, sustainable transformation in our urban community, so as to improve the quality of life for all its residents. With a $10 billion budget, my strategy centers on combating climate change, improving air and water quality, and creating a sustainable future for the city's diverse communities.
Firstly, I would allocate a substantial portion of the budget towards green infrastructure projects. This includes expanding urban green spaces, developing rain gardens, and enhancing rooftop gardens across city buildings. These initiatives combat urban heat island effects and improve air quality and provide serene green spaces for the community.
Innovation in renewable energy solutions will also be at the forefront of my agenda. Investing in solar and wind energy installations throughout the city, including on public buildings and schools, will reduce reliance on fossil fuels and decrease greenhouse gas emissions. A part of the budget will be dedicated to research and development of new sustainable technologies, so as to build up partnerships with local universities and startups.
Water conservation and quality improvement projects would also be important. I would upgrade our wastewater treatment facilities with advanced technology to create cleaner waterways, and invest in sustainable stormwater management systems to reduce pollution and prevent flooding.
Public education and community engagement programs will be launched to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote sustainable practices among residents. This would help to establish a sense of ownership and responsibility towards our city's ecological well-being.
Lastly, to lay the foundation for long-term sustainability and efficiency, I would implement smart technology to monitor environmental data and infrastructure performance. This will allow us to make informed decisions and respond promptly to environmental challenges.
Through these STEM-driven initiatives, my aim is to transform New York City into a global model of urban sustainability, where innovation and environmental stewardship pave the way for a healthier, greener future for all its inhabitants.
Green Why "Going Green" is the Right Way to Go Even if you don't believe the world is ending like it did in disaster movies The Day After Tomorrow and 2012, there are still plenty of good reasons to "go green." Did you know that until the 1970s most trash was dumped straight into holes in the ground, where overtime it released hazardous chemicals and methane gas, "20 times more potent
For some airlines, it is not that they do not care about the environment but only that they do not see going green as financially feasible (Friends, 2007; National, 2007; Kim, et al., 2007). If they have incentives, that can affect how they feel and whether they will go green. If there are few incentives, most airlines will decide not to go green because there will not be a
Florida is, again, a good example in this sense. The governor of Florida signed an executive order that "required state agencies and departments to hold meetings and conferences at Green Lodging participants whenever possible" . What this means is that state agencies are to use green hotels for meetings and any events rather than other types of hotels. The state rewards hotels that have gone green by increasing their business.
For this reason Torres suggests that using LEED information is a good way to mitigate mistakes that can come at a cost. It is also clear that mistakes such as this are much more limited in possibility as systems and products expand daily to meet the growing demand for "greener" options that are also safe and healthy. Conclusion The hospitality industry is clearly an area where "going green" can make a
The products were soon withdrawn from the market as they were a complete failure as customers found it inconvenient to have to constantly recharge the electric vehicles given the existence of such a few recharging locations. Also, the consumers were not ready to change their driving habits so drastically and in such a short period of time. Green marketing myopia can also appear when green products are not able to
CIO's concern with going green is that is an efficient process that utilizes available resources and conserves energy (and associated expenses) all throughout the IT function. This can involved creating new energy-efficient data centers, simplified infrastructures by consolidating servers or using virtualization options and/or implementing cooling solutions in data centers already in place. From an agency theory perspective, the CIO's concern is to identify the "governance mechanism" by which
