¶ … Fish Oil Supplements Great for the Heart," discusses the benefits of fish-oil supplements in controlling atherosclerosis, which can lead to heart disease. Studies show that fish-oil helps break down triglycerides, that can cause atherosclerosis, and people who exercise regularly show the most benefits from taking fish-oil supplements. The research used test subjects, and a variety of situations to test results, and showed that those who exercised and took fish-oil could reduce their triglyceride levels by 50%. This article indicates that fish-oil supplements could replace some other drug therapies for heart disease, and that it is a good idea to begin and exercise program and take fish-oil supplements if you want to reduce your risk of heart disease. I do not take fish-oil now, but I think I will start.
The second article, "Heart of the Matter," discusses several different supplements that are supposed to help prevent heart disease, including fish oil. Each supplement has been heavily studied, and the article shows supplements that work, and those that do not. Those that work include Psyllium, Phytosterols, and Folic Acid & B-12. Supplements that do not work, or only work for certain people include Aspirin, Antioxidants, and Niacin. Each of these results came from intensive studies, many had several different studies that led to the conclusion, and they all were studied more than once. These outcomes were certainly surprising, at least for some of the supplements mentioned. It seems to be common knowledge that you should take an aspirin every day, but studies show this only works in some people and the others require quite large doses if they are to work at all. This information is reliable because it cites so many intensive studies that have gone into the results, and it is helpful to understand some of the reasons behind why these supplements work (or don't work). Using this information it seems better to take Psyllium Phytosterols, and B-12 to help prevent heart disease, and I already take Psylluim, so I will continue.
