Financial Analyst Interview Questions Interview

Pre-Interview Questions

Tell me about your work experience as it relates to this position?

In my most recent role at HNTB Corporation, Ive maintained a number of responsibilities that align closely with the Project Accountant role at WSP. I've performed detailed financial analyses, focusing on key performance indicators like budget adherence, earnings variances, and cash flow. One of my notable achievements was developing a plan to resolve Delinquent Billing & AR balances on four troubled projects, which led to cash collections of 1.5 million dollars. I am experienced in identifying financial risks and opportunities, so as to ensure the project's overall financial health.

Before HNTB, I worked at Jacobs Engineering Group, where I gained hands-on experience with Oracle, the ERP system that WSP also utilizes. At Jacobs, I was responsible for the accounting activities of projects that had a combined Year-To-Date revenue of over $10 million. I also managed all construction project accounting for contract budgets that were valued at $115 million. My role required me to coordinate closely with project-related personnel on various aspects like project setup, performance status, and client invoicing requirements. I prepared, distributed, and tracked monthly invoice submissions for a diverse set of clients, including government agencies and private companies. This experience has given me a comprehensive understanding of the accounting needs and challenges in large-scale projects.

Additionally, my earlier experience as a Restaurant Manager at Greek Town Gyros Restaurant provided me with a strong foundation in customer relations, inventory control, and basic accounting, which have been invaluable in my subsequent roles.

Given the alignment between my professional experience and the job duties listed for the Project Accountant role at WSP, I believe I am well-suited to contribute effectively to your team. My experience with Oracle and my proven track record in financial analysis and project coordination...

What is your motivation to consider making a move at this time?

My primary motivation for considering a move at this time is the opportunity for growth and to take on more challenging roles. While I've gained valuable experience in my current position, I believe that WSP offers a platform where I can further develop my skills and contribute to larger, more complex projects. One of the driving factors for this move is the technology stack at WSP. I'm particularly excited about the prospect of working with Oracle again. I'm also excited about the prospect of being part of a world-leading firm and contributing to its…
