Liberal versus Conservative Approaches to the COVID-19 Pandemic and Its Effects on the U.S. Population
Liberals view both the problem and solution to the covid-19 pandemic through the lens of social justice. They see the pandemic as a symptom of systemic inequality, and believe that the most vulnerable members of society are being disproportionately affected. As such, they believe that the solution must involve addressing these underlying issues of social injustice. In particular, they argue that government needs to invest in public health infrastructure and increase access to healthcare because only by addressing the root cause of the problem will society be able to effectively solve the covid-19 pandemic.
Essentially, therefore, the liberal viewpoint is that the government has a responsibility to protect its citizens from harm. The basic problem with the covid-19 pandemic is that it is a new and dangerous disease that liberals argue has killed many people. The solution for them was for the government to provide information about the disease and how to prevent it, and to provide funding for research into a vaccine.
