Manhattan vs. Charlotte
Manhattan and Charlotte are two bustling cities in the United States that attract millions of visitors every year. While they share some similarities in terms of their uptown urban environments that combine high-rise towers with nightlife and community, they also have some differences when it comes to crime rates, education, cost of living, and access to healthcare. Similar in some ways, these two cities are also worlds apart in others. In this essay, I will compare and contrast Manhattan and Charlotte in terms of the factors that make them alike and unique by highlighting characteristics of each city.
One of the most significant differences between Manhattan and Charlotte is their crime rates. Manhattan used to be tough on crime during the Rudy Giuliani days, but in recent years, regulations and policies have changed and crime rates have spiked. The national violent crime rate average in the US is 22.7, according to BestPlaces.com. Manhattan, however, has a violent crime rate of 37.77more than fifty percent higher than the national average. But Charlotte is not much better with a violent crime rate of 34.3. Yet, Charlotte has a property crime rate of 53.6, compared to Manhattans of 31 and a US national average of 35.4.
