Competency Development Plan First, A Little Bit Resume

Competency Development Plan First, a little bit about myself. I am a qualified electrical mechanic and I am currently working as an Electrical Maintainer for J&P Richardson Industries in Wacol, Qld. I have been in this capacity for the past eight years. I have come to the conclusion that it is time to take the next step in my career development. For me, that includes seeking out progressive positions, but it also entails upgrading my education. I am seeking a Certificate IV in Instrumentation in order to facilitate my personal growth.

I began my career in Germany, where I apprenticed at a large commercial and industrial services company called Elektro Technik Niesky GmbH, in the town of Niesky in the far East of the country. I stayed there for seven years, finally leaving in 2001 to pursue more advanced opportunities in Australia. I first began work with Stevan Advanced Electrical in Brisbane. There, I was an electrical mechanic, the same position that I held in Germany. I held a similar position from 2002 to 2004 for DESA Australia, where I also worked in data telephony and as a fibre optic cabler. In 2004, I joined my current company and have become a leading hand.

In the course of my eighteen year career, I have had the opportunity to steadily build my skills. I have been working in the installation, commissioning and maintaining of pump stations, often in a supervisory role. I have performed the critical tasks in pump stations -- installing HV pumps, HV switchgear, motors and backup power generators. I am expert in identifying faults and risks, and finding solutions to these problems. I work with hydraulic and mechanical machinery, and I have over the course of my employment worked for a...

At this point, I feel as though I have reached the apex of this position, and I wish to advance my education in order to move forward in my career.
I am committed to life in Australia. I have obtained permanent residency, and all the necessary certifications to perform my job. I hold a QLD Electrical Mechanic license, a WA A Grade license, an ACRS Data Cabler license, a forklift license and a boom lifts license. I have learned the SCADA/Citect systems as part of my current employment, and I maintain IT literacy where it pertains to my duties. Whenever I need to learn new skills to enhance my ability to perform, and to enhance my value to my employer, I am more than willing to undertake study and gain that knowledge.

The quality of my work is appreciated by all those with whom I work. My referees include a foreman at my current company, and people from customers who have taken note of my work. I have a perfect safety record, owing to my commitment to total adherence to OHS policies. Indeed, I excel at identifying safety risks, and take the steps needed to ensure that everything on my projects is entirely up to code. Because of my work rate, dedication, and commitment to both safety and ongoing learning, I have become a leader in my work group, whose knowledge and experience is looked up to by the other workers.

In order for me to take the next step, I feel that gaining my Certificate IV Instrumentation is an essential part of my motivation." There are a few reasons for this. The first is that I feel that gaining new competencies is an essential part of growing as a human being. I enjoy learning new things, and applying those skills to perform…
