Columbia University Supplemental Application Essays Admission Essay

Q. A hallmark of the Columbia experience is being able to learn and live in a community with a wide range of perspectives. How do you, or would you learn from and contribute to diverse, collaborative communities? (200 words or fewer)

I am of Korean American heritage. At my high school, I am proudly part of a very diverse community of students. One thing I have discovered is that sharing a common interest can bring people together. In my art classes, through the shared passion of aiming for perfectionwhether creating a self-portrait, a cartoon, or an electric sculpture of wireswe can celebrate and learn from our individual perspectives. All art arises from deep within the self of the creator, and we must all respect one anothers selves.
