Codes Of Conduct There Seems Essay

These codes go too far in punishing acts like alcohol and tobacco abuse without attempting in any real way to have an open discussion about these topics. A more effective code of conduct is one that outlines general ethical and moral principles without listing specific punishments for specific offenses. In this way, students can be judged on the whole of their merits, rather than on a single incident, which renders the code more fairly applicable and efficient, too. The Colorado High School Activities Association Code of Ethics outlines such principles, including the principle to "strongly encourage the development of proper health habits," which includes not drinking and smoking (CHSAA, 2009). This code still promotes the same behaviors as the stricter codes, but with room for the realities of being a high school student facing various pressures and desires.
