Career Investigation Research Paper

Fashion Photographer Although I could not find any specific job advertisement for a fashion photographer, I found some entry-level positions in the fashion industry. A copy of these appears after the reference list. It appears that a career choice of fashion photography would be extremely rewarding in terms of the interesting situations and people the professional would come into contact with. It also appears to be a highly creative and satisfying job for a person with the right traits.

According to the "Creative Skillset" Website (2012), some colleges and universities offer courses in fashion photography, which are generally led by established photographers who act as visiting lecturers for these courses. While these courses can provide a valuable grounding knowledge of the industry, most fashion photographers begin their careers by assisting established fashion photographers. This provides not only practical experience in the industry, but also practical knowledge of the way in which fashion photographs can best be created and presented. Another starting point for such a career can be an apprenticeship at a fashion magazine.

Like all industry professionals, fashion photographers should also be aware of the health and safety concerns inherent in this career....

Physical stresses may occur from carrying heavy camera equipment and lighting, for example. Often, fashion photography occurs in harsh outdoor conditions, which may also lead to illness and stress. Fashion photographers should most likely have a current Public Liability insurance policy to cover any accidents or health and safety risks in their work.
Generally, fashion photographers photograph models wearing high fashion clothes, jewelry, shoes, and/or hair accessories (Careers in Photography, 2012). This means that the career requires a highly creative individual with a passion for the world of clothing and accessories. The career also often involves a large amount of travel, since most models are also photographed in exotic locations. The photographer is then to capture the product, model, and location in a creative way, presenting them in the best light possible. Fashion photographers are often employed by popular magazines like Vogue, Cosmopolitan, and Allure.

Tasks that relate to the career include knowing how to operate and run a photography studio and using lighting to best present the subject of the photograph, both indoors and outdoors. The photographs should be taken in such a way that the products being advertised, whether this is jewelry,…
