¶ … Brown v. Board of Education, but Hernandez v. Texas was an important Supreme Court case related to civil rights. I had not known much about this case before watching the video. The video explained the process by which small town cases can reach the Supreme Court. The issues have to call into question the fundamental federal laws. More importantly, Hernandez v. Texas is about the process of jury selection, and how jury selection is one of the most important aspects of any trial. In a murder trial, the jury may be deciding the fate of a person's life -- they were in the case of Pedro Hernandez. The background of each jury member affects how the individual thinks and feels about the issues at stake. Prejudice and bias might not be admitted publically, but they are going to factor into the way evidence is weighed, what things are important to the jury members, and the methods of critical and creative thinking used by the jury....
