¶ … Leadership Training for Adolescents

How do adolescent in an early leadership program define their leadership experience?

Early leadership programs have made positive impacts on adolescents who participate in the programs. These programs help them in developing leadership related skills, knowledge and behavior. Adolescents participating in early leadership programs are more aware of the individual differences and developmental needs of young leaders (Herman & Cunningham, 2008). Further, they define their leadership experience as leaders who are responsible for the welfare of the community.

Moreover, adolescent leaders define their leadership experience as having been mentored by early leadership programs. Based on the possible outcomes of this question, adolescents are encouraged to be responsible and manage their training. This research question was chosen in order to determine the level of effectiveness of adolescent leaders in the community. The answer to this question is likely to determine the perception of adolescent leaders of the leadership skills as acquired through participating in leadership programs (Lassey, 2006).

2. How do adolescent in an early leadership program describe their experience?

Many adolescents participating in early leadership programs have difficulties in talking about their experience. Most of them describe their experience as something that is not fashionable to do. Adolescents view these programs as childish, boring, stupid, corny, and lame. Furthermore, they describe their experience in early leadership programs as corny, lame, cheesy, childish, and stupid. In addition, adolescents share these negative perceptions of attending early leadership programs among themselves (Herman & Cunningham, 2008). They argue that they do not understand the purpose, context, and value of early leadership programs. Adolescents describe that being an adolescent leader helped them in understanding their juniors.

To be specific, participating in leadership programs helps adolescents to learn how different strategies work for different groups of people. These programs also help them as they learn how to be patient as well as communicate with other people without using abusive authority. This question was chosen in order to help leaders of youth programs in understanding the consequences that the programs have on adolescent. With the answer provided for this question, the leaders will be able to identify areas that need additional emphasis thus place them for future programming (Lassey, 2006).

3. How did participating in the early leadership program change their leadership abilities?

The leadership abilities of adolescents have been transformed because they have been able to learn how to manage time and guide others towards achieving a common goal. This has been achieved through giving adolescents the power to make decisions. Adolescents who participated in early leadership programs were allowed to take part in the organization and planning of the programs. They made decisions of how to change the direction of the programs and chose their own after programs activities. This opportunity helped them in developing problem-solving techniques because they had to make choices in meeting time, budget, and environmental constraints (Lassey, 2006).
