Assessment Tool And Healthcare Term Paper

Organizational Assessment Tools: LESAT Discuss the premise of the model - how and when was it developed?

Lean Enterprise Self-Assessment Tool (LESAT) is an organizational assessment tool developed by a group comprising of government, industry, and academia members pooled and enabled by the Lean Advancement Initiative at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The model is a questionnaire intended to be utilized as a self-assessment tool, encompassing the top leadership of an organization. The assessment tool was primarily created to be incorporated in a prevailing transformation plan, which is the Transition to Lean Roadmap. However, since then, the Enterprise Transformation Roadmap replaced the tool and functions autonomously (Perkins et al., 2010).

The Lean Enterprise Self-Assessment Tool takes into account key signs linked with organizational leanness and assessing the gaps that exist between the current and desired states. Considering this, the tool has a significant value from a transformation standpoint. Initially, this model was developed with contribution from the aerospace industry. However, it finds application in manufacturing organizations over a wide range of industries. In the present day, the service and healthcare industries also use this tool increasingly. Remarkably, the tool is acknowledged for self-assessment, incorporating several standpoints and viewpoints into an evaluation that can steer transformation by determining gaps in performance and measuring enhancement in the execution of lean enterprise principles (Perkins et al., 2010).

Explain how the development and use of this model follows trends in the assessment of organizations in the field of organizational consulting

The development and application of the Lean Enterprise Self-Assessment Tool follows trends in assessing organization in the area of organizational consulting. Firstly, with respect to organizational consulting, the Lean Enterprise Self-Assessment Tool determines the issues currently faced by the client. Secondly, the model determines strategic imperatives and obtains the pertinent information from the organization that leads to the inefficiencies. This encompasses understanding the prevailing state by undertaking stakeholder analysis, examining procedures and organizational relationships, and appraising the present performance of...

Thirdly, the model assesses such processes and information that incorporate the vision that the organization has for the future. This includes conveying the transformation plan and focusing on the areas that necessitate improvement. Subsequently, the model implements and coordinates the whole plan for transformation in detail. Lastly, progress and feedback is assessed to determine improvement or enhancement achieved through the deployment of the tool (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 2012).
Identify the foundation of the model. How is it best used?

The basis of the model is the clear delineation of enterprise transformation network and roadmap. The best use of Lean Enterprise Self-Assessment Tool is as a support for self-assessing the prevailing state of leanness of an enterprise and its willingness to change. It is not intended to be a foundation of comparison between organizations. In addition, the relevance of LESAT lies in its utility for integrating and assimilating the perspectives and standpoints of enterprise leadership. It takes into consideration key indicators that are linked with organizational brilliance as they are centered in principles established by means of academic research and field experience in the transformation of enterprises (Nightingale, 2009). LESAT offers measures of accomplishment and achievement in enterprises. In particular, these measures can be scrutinized and construed to place tasks in order for a transformation strategy and to cultivate incessant response and direction as the plan is implemented. When appropriately understood, these measures offer a comprehension of the organization's present state and the justification for ranking requirements and outlining prospects for improvement (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 2012).

Explain organizational issues this model would be most effective in uncovering within your chosen organization

The organization selected for this analysis is Texas Medical Center. This is one of the major health care organizations in the United States. However, this does not imply that the organization does not face any inefficacies or issues. "Elimination of Waste" within the medical center, would be the main issue that LESAT would help in uncovering. "General increase of Costs" incurred by Texas Medical Center would be another issue that would be uncovered. This increased cost, in turn, increases the price paid by patients and consumers for medical care. Increased costs may deter the consumers from referring to TMC as their preferred healthcare provider. One of the key organizational issues facing Texas Medical Center is eliminating, or at least minimizing time that is presently spent on activities that do not add value with respect to delivering healthcare to patients. This…
