Dear Appeals Committee
Re: Transfer admission to UC campus for Fall 2012- (Write your Full Name here)
I learned on [insert date] that I was denied transfer admission to UC campus for Fall, 2012. I respectfully request the Transfer Appeals Committee to reevaluate my application on the basis of the new information provided in this letter.
Although I was never surprised when I received the rejection letter from UCR, I was extremely disappointed. I am quite aware that when I applied my GPA was below average for UCR. I also know that at the time of the examinations (due to my background as an international student from Japan); my scores did not represent my true ability since English is not the lingua franca in my home country. I must say that I went thorough an extraordinary hardship during my first college year as an English as a Second language (ESL) student. As is indicated in the attached transcript, I had a 2.88 GPA in the Winter 2012 exams. I must say that my grades from Fall 2010 to the Summer 2011 were terrible due to the fact that by then, I had not grasped the use of English as the language of instruction. Basically, my GPA was dragged down by my poor scores in POL-1 and MAT-5.The main reason again is that my English was not good at that time. I must say that language barrier has been the main cause of poor academic performance in the American college where I have been in the past.
I have placed an emphasis on mastering English and improving my word power. My efforts in trying to master English have paid off as evidenced by my improved level of spoken and written English. This is also reflected in my improved GPA score (3.25 GPA).I must say that my improved command of English helped me in passing the two courses POL-1 and MAT-5 which I retook on Spring 2012 and successfully passed. I put great emphasis on improving my vocabulary by means of a vocabulary building book among other techniques of language mastery. A review of my transcripts would help you in noting the gradual but steady improvement in my GPA scores. This trend will of course continue after I join UCR.
I am aware of the fact that UCR discourages appeal cases, but it is my hope that you will consider my new scores and subsequently reconsider my application. I have enclosed my most recent grade report for your consideration.
