¶ … Social Learning Theory
Paragraph 1 (Summary of the Lessons Learnt from the Reading Material and Two Peer Reviewed Journal Articles Discussing (the Social Learning Theory) One Theory)
When we are born into the world, we simply come here not knowing how to act or behave. Throughout my readings, in the textbook, Essential Criminology, and scholarly journal articles, I have found that the social learning theory explains how humans learn to behave by observing those around them or what is in their environment. Parents, family members, teachers, friends, or any individual that is observed can be a "role model" children can imitate. There are also the television or video game characters, where behavior is observed. Children can then choose which pattern of behavior to imitate. Positively speaking, children from healthy environments that emulate positive behaviors modeled around them (e.g. kindness, love, empathy, sharing, and integrity), will have them positively reinforced for positive outcomes. On a negative note, the social learning theory states that negative behaviors (e.g. violence, swearing, stealing, abuse, and aggression) learned from individuals or the media, may produce undesirable behaviors that can lead to negative outcomes.

Criminology Classical theory elucidates crime as a creation and outcome of beliefs that advantages of committing crimes are extremely greater than normative, socially acceptable behavior. The foundation of this school of thought on criminology is that crime is a rational choice and that many individuals have the capacity to resort to crime. In addition, individuals will commit crime subsequent to the comparison of prospective advantages and disadvantages of such actions. The
