¶ … communications serve at the heart of a business' ICMT strategy. As Waber (2013) discusses, face-to-face interactions "create a nexus of social activity in the workplace." The interaction between employees helps build report and creates a stronger organizational culture. Meanwhile, face-to-face interactions between managers and employees help set a stronger tone for company processes and the chain of command. Such interpersonal communications are critical for the health and well being of a growing internal culture. Yet, some face-to-face interactions can prove distracting, such as gossiping. Distance communication has typically been difficult, lacking the same interpersonal advantages seen in face-to-face communications. It may be hard for employees to fully collaborate and it hinders the development of a strong organizational culture from fully engaged employees. Advances in technology are definitely adding advantages to distance communication strategies. Today, there are a wealth of new tools that augment distance interaction in regards to an organization's ICMT strategy. According to Duparc (2012), businesses can now use new digitization tools as a way to increase the efficiency and ease of distance communications. One of the most innovative of these tools is social media, "such as wikis, social networks or blogs, and functions in a networked organization"...
Organizations have begun adapting social media technologies so that they serve internal management strategy purposes. A business can create its own social networking platform to be used for internal communications. This helps increase the scope and breadth of distance communications, making it easier for individuals to reach out to others and groups internally within the organization. Our semester plans gives you unlimited, unrestricted access to our entire library of resources —writing tools, guides, example essays, tutorials, class notes, and more.
