Many generations of aspiring theoretical physicists have been trained by top researchers at the Institute in a highly conducive environments that is completely geared toward learning (Kojevnikov, 2004).
There are specific main fields for scientific research that the Landau Institute for Theoretical Physics has been involved with throughout the past forty years (Kojevnikov, 2004). These all-important areas include:
Condensed matter theory
Quantum field theory
Nuclear and elementary particle physics
Computational physics
Nonlinear dynamics
Mathematical physics (Kojevnikov, 2004).
The Landau Institute has survived throughout many Russian crises times - most notably those that took place throughout the 1990s (Kojevnikov, 2004). Some of the best experts left Russia to work at centers for science throughout the world. However, the large majority of them have kept up ties with Landau Institute, which has allowed them to form a world-wide Landau network, always showing pride in the Landau School.
