Ethical Changes in the Classroom
PAGES 25 WORDS 6690

This is a research paper for comprehensives in a PhD of education program. It needs to have 12 sources cited and 5 of which need to be from books. Below in the info provided is a listing of sources that need to be included in the paper. The paper needs to be based around the discussion outline below. This paper needs to compare and contrast the change in ethical responsibilities of teachers in the classroom today (2000's) from 50 years ago. The following is some specific info about the paper:

DISCUSSION AREA: Ethics in Schools
QUESTION: Examine ethics of teachers in schools.

How have ethical responsibilities changed in the classroom in the past 50 years?

Ethics in our schools has become a greater concern during the past few years. Things that were not considered to be proper 50 years ago are common in the culture of youth today, such as appearance, actions, and language. We are faced with what philosophers describe as ethical relativism. This is the notion that there are no absolutes, no common values, and no core set of moral ideas. It is the notion that all ethics is situational, negotiable, fluid and intensely personal. Ethical relativism has become so popular due to changes in our society, such as recognizing women?s rights, human rights, minority rights, religious rights, etc. These changes occurred because of many recent historical events including the Viet Nam War, the civil rights movement, and the women?s movement. Compare and contrast the change in ethical responsibilities over the past 50 years.

This is what the essay needs to written about.

A member of your learning team does not attend your scheduled weekly five hour team meeting, citing "a personal problem" as the reason. They also will not be available by telephone or email to participate in the learning team's activities for this week. You are aware of this individual's issues and know that the problem is genuine. Also you like this individual and when they can participate they are a great asset to the team due to their expertise and knowledge. The team has discussed staying together in future classes and looks forward to doing so.

That person asks that they be shown as participating on the learning team log to be turned in at the next workshop. This individual has missed a prior learning team meeting and did not participate during a prior week. If they do not participate during this week as well they will have to drop the class.

1. What are the ethical issues involved in this class?

2. What are your ethical responsibilities to yourself, the affected learning team member, the rest of the learning team and to the university?

3. What would you do and why?

Ethics in Global Health Lena

Page 1 PLEASE APA references seperate for page 1

As discussed in this weeks media presentation, all nurses need to be familiar with the laws and regulations that govern their practice: their states Nurse Practice Act; ANAs Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice; specialty group standards of practice, etc. In addition, basic ethical principles guide nurses decision-making process every day. ANAs Code of Ethics and ANAs Social Policy Statement are two important documents that outline nurses ethical responsibilities to their patients, themselves, and their profession. Yet, the laws are not always compatible with the ethical positions taken by nurses.

In preparation for this Discussion, review this weeks Learning Resources. Also, consider the ethical responsibility of nurses in issues such as ensuring patient autonomy, beneficence, nonmalfeasance, and justice. Then, read the following case study and respond to the questions below:

Lena is a community health care nurse who works exclusively with HIV-positive and AIDS patients. As a part of her job, she evaluates new cases and reviews confidential information about these patients. In the course of one of these reviews, Lena learns that her sisters boyfriend has tested HIV-positive. Lena would like to protect her sister from harm and begins to consider ways that her sister can find out about her boyfriends health status.

Consult at least two resources to help you establish the legal position. These resources might include your states Nurse Practice Act, the ANA's Code of Ethics, ANAs Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice, and internal or external standards of care. Determine whether the law supports or conflicts with your ethical stance on the situation.

With this in mind:

Post a summary of what the legal resources and professional standards say about this case regarding Lenas disclosure of private information. Include the following in your summary:

How should nurse Lena act in this situation to safeguard herself legally and ethically?

Does the law support or conflict with your ethical stance on the situation?

Include in your response how nurse Lena is supporting or violating issues of autonomy, beneficence, nonmalfeasance, and justice.

Reminder: Be sure to support your response with appropriate references to the Learning Resources. If you use sources other than the course Learning Resources, please follow APA (American Psychological Association) guidelines and provide a proper citation and reference for each source. Refer to the APA Pocket Guide, sent to you.

Throughout this course, you have read and heard about the strengths and weaknesses of the U.S. health care delivery system in relationship to issues of cost, quality, access, and outcomes. Although the United States spends more on health care than any other country, health outcomes do not seem to justify the higher cost. To prepare for this Discussion, review Chapter 6, Comparative Analysis of Health Systems Among Wealthy Nations in Health Care Delivery in the United States (5th ed.), and consider what the United States can learn from other countries in formulating policies to reform and improve its health care system. Compare and contrast costs, access, and health care outcomes of the United States to another wealthy country. Then, respond to the following:

How are global factors, including nurse migration, affecting nursing and health care delivery?

What can the United States learn from other countries in formulating policies to reform and improve the U.S. health care system? Include specific examples of the country you compared the United States with in terms of cost, access, and health outcomes.
With this in mind:

Post a comparison of the U.S. health care system with another country of your choice. Determine how the U.S. health care system can be improved based on the other country's example. In your description, address the bulleted questions above

Reminder: Be sure to support your response with appropriate references to the Learning Resources. If you use sources other than the course Learning Resources, please follow APA (American Psychological Association) guidelines and provide a proper citation and reference for each source. Refer to the APA Pocket Guide, sent to you.

Case Study Transcript

George is 71 years old. His wife of nearly 50 years passed away 4 months ago. He has come to his first counseling session at the insistence of his son, Michael, who reports that George has lost interest in good food, once a passion of his; that he seldom leaves his house; and that he appears depressed and without enthusiasm even for visits from his beloved grandchildren.
George is sullen, quiet, and almost non-communicative at first meeting. He appears unkempt and reports feelings of abandonment and detachment. While he has no prior history of depression, his father committed suicide when George was young.

Given:

It is essential for all nurses to understand their ethical responsibilities when providing care, functioning within diverse healthcare settings, and interacting with society in general. The ethical expectations for nurses are found in codes, standards, moral philosophy, and legal requirements that inform ethical decisions. Nurses need to be grounded in ethical theories and principles in order to make principled decisions in all aspects of their practice.

Nurses face many ethical decisions in every area of their practice: making choices about confidentiality, advocating for patients, supporting patients in their decisions, meeting the standards of practice, participating in collaborative decisions, and understanding how their own values and beliefs influence their nursing decisions and nursing actions.

This task focuses on confidentiality and addresses the cultural aspects of care that become more important as the populations nurses serve become more diverse.

Task:

Read the attached Case Presentation scenario. Based on this scenario, write an essay (suggested length of 4??"5 pages) in which you address the following:

A. In an introductory paragraph, briefly describe the major topic areas you will be discussing in the paper.

B. Justify the importance of ethical theory (i.e., Utilitarism, Deonatology/Kantianism, Virtue Ethics, Moral Particularism) to nursing.
1. Provide one example that shows the importance of ethical theory as it applies to nursing practice.

C. Relate the principle of confidentiality to the concept of reasonable limits.
1. Explain the elements of the principle of confidentiality.
2. Summarize the elements of the concept of reasonable limits.
3. Provide a rationale for breaking confidentiality.
4. Based on reasonable limits, justify keeping or breaking confidentiality.

D. Identify how to resolve conflict between two or more ethical principles.
1. Summarize one ethical principle that would be in conflict if confidentiality were broken in the given case.
2. Explain an appropriate ethical theory that could support the decision to keep or to break confidentiality.

E. Discuss the influence of culture on values.
1. Compare and contrast the cultural values related to confidentiality for the Z family and for the providers (nurse and physician).
2. Propose two nursing interventions that could help reduce or resolve the ethical conflict of keeping or breaking confidentiality.

F. Identify one ethical decision-making model used by masters-prepared nurses in the delivery of healthcare.
1. Describe the steps in your selected ethical decision-making model.
2. Apply your selected decision-making model to the given case to determine a decision for resolving the confidentiality conflict.

G. Cite at least 10 professional, scholarly sources in your paper.

H. Format essay according to APA style.

Note: When using sources to support ideas and elements in a paper or project, the submission MUST include APA formatted in-text citations with a corresponding reference list for any direct quotes or paraphrasing. CASE PRESENTATION

Background information:

Mr. Z is a visiting professor of biophysics at a large university medical center. The Z family came to the United States two years ago and will be in this country for five years. Family members include the doctor; his wife, Mrs. Z; their two children, who are four and seven years old; and Mr. Z?s mother.

The family has adopted the traditions of a prominent culture in their country of origin, where the husband is conventionally the primary decision maker and the husband?s mother is in charge of the household, determining how it is organized. Mrs. Z accepts her mother-in-law?s decisions related to the household and child-rearing practices.

Ethical situation:

Mrs. Z discovers a lump in her right breast. She tells her mother-in-law, who then shares the information with her son, Mr. Z. Mrs. Z, her husband, and her mother-in-law go together to a female physician, Dr. F.

Mrs. Z is examined without her family in the room. This is acceptable to her culture, since only females are present. She has a mammogram. She privately tells the physician and attending nurse that she does not want her husband or mother-in-law to know the outcomes of the examination and test.

She is given another appointment after the results of the mammogram are available. Dr. F and the nurse explain that she needs a biopsy. The mammogram showed a suspicious area, and a biopsy would help Dr. F establish a diagnosis. Mrs. Z chooses to have a biopsy without consulting anyone in her family. She again states she does not want her family to know more about her situation.

The culture is generally family members would go with the person receiving the care but since Mrs. Z is being seen by a female physician, he would not need to be in the room.

When Mrs. Z comes into the waiting room, her family asks her questions about what was done. She tells them that nothing was done, that the appointment was just a follow-up. Two weeks later, Dr. F calls Mrs. Z to tell her that the biopsy was positive and that Mrs. Z needs additional treatment. Mrs. Z does not tell her family. She is afraid of having chemotherapy, a mastectomy, or other treatment.

When Mr. Z sees the medical bills, he questions his wife about the procedures. She continues to say nothing is wrong but appears unhappy. The nurse calls Mrs. Z to see if she will come into the office so treatment options can be discussed. Mrs. Z states that she will not seek additional treatment and does not want any information shared with her family.

Her husband is concerned. He talks with one of his colleagues, Dr. J, who is a medical doctor, and asks Dr. J to find out what is happening with Mrs. Z. Dr. J calls the office and asks the nurse to provide him with electronic access to Mrs. Z?s records. The nurse states she will talk with Dr. F about his request.

Dr. F and the nurse discuss the situation related to patient confidentiality. They use a decision-making process and review the limits of confidentiality and the good or harm in respecting Mrs. Z?s request not to share information. They base their decision making on their commitment to professional standards and their desire to ensure that Mrs. Z receives the best

Bright Lights Lit Up the
PAGES 5 WORDS 1601

I need a (5) five-page essay on the World Literature course.
There are two separate questions that need to be answered thoroughly.

Follow the instructions below:

1) Writing a Reflective Essay
This is an independent writing project that will be submitted to your instructor.
Reflective Essay: Choose an important personal experience-something in your life that really affected you. It can be an event you personally witnessed or participated in or unusual conditions you have experienced or special concerns you've dealt with. Make a list of 5 or 6 possible topics. If you can't think of anything, you can look back at old pictures, yearbooks, or journals or talk to friends and family about what they think has had the greatest effect on you.
Reflective essays go beyond simply describing experiences; they reveal a greater truth about an abstract idea like love, patience, courage, hope or honor. Your reflection on your experience should lead to a new understanding about life and what it means to be human.
Your reflective essay should be about 2 pages long.
Pages 656 - 658 of your text give specific, detailed instructions on how to begin.
To summarize:
Gather the details that will bring your experience and its significance together. Think about a series of events that you witnessed or experienced, which changed your life dramatically. Then list the details of the events.
List the events that you want to recount, and under each event, record specific details that will allow you to create concrete images.
Balance the events you are discussing-if you're talking about three events, don't spend half your essay talking about one of them.
Organize your essay: it can be arranged chronologically or in a flashback/flash forward format. You can also organize it according to the order of importance of events.

2) Scientific Progress
This is an independent writing project that will be submitted to your instructor.
In Frankenstein, Mary Shelley expresses very strong opinions about the need for scientists to behave responsibly with their creations.
Today, science has progressed in ways Mary Shelley never could have imagined, and scientists still struggle with their ethical responsibilities for their creations. For this assignment, you will research a controversial advance emerging in science, such as cloning, gene therapy, atomic energy, stem cell research, or another topic of your choosing, that directly deals with a scientific research. Your topic should be about a new technology or technique, NOT a general scientific theory like evolution. You will research the arguments in favor of and opposed to this technology and write an essay arguing for or against the use of the controversial scientific advance. Your essay should be 2-3 pages long and should be based on facts and evidence, not simply rhetoric or emotion. You should have at least four independent sources to cite in your research.
Consider the implications of the technology for the general population, as well as the population the emerging technology serves. I would also like you to address the question of whether or not you think your argument agrees with or is contrary to the belief expressed by Mary Shelley in Frankenstein. You should use at least two examples or quotes from the book in your essay. Your essay will be graded on the strength of your argument a well as the research you present.
Topic is about a scientific advance or technology, not a scientific theory.
My essay argues for or against the technology.
I have cited at least four sources, and in my essay, I have indicated where I got my information.
I have indicated whether or not I think Mary Shelley would agree with my argument and incorporated two examples from the book.
I have a strong thesis statement and each paragraph in the essay works to support my thesis statement.
Each paragraph has a topic sentence.
My essay has an interesting introductory paragraph and a concluding paragraph.
I have proofread for spelling and grammar errors.

We are presented with ethical dilemmas almost every day, and it is important to be cognizant of appropriate and ethical actions. Even more so, it is important to be aware of appropriate and ethical responsibilities at work. Public administrators have a great responsibility to the public, who in return, hold public administrators accountable. Any and all ethically controversial actions are usually available for the public and other administrators to critique. So, a successful public administrator possesses critical skills to perform ethical actions in all aspects of the job.
For this assignment, you are the boss for a public administrative agency, and it is your job to complete a job description for a position that reports to you. Go to the Internet and search for your dream job (or at least a job that interests you) as a public administrator. Take the details of that job description and insert them into a word-processing application.
The next step is to create a detailed section of the job description about ethical responsibilities. As the boss, identify at least ten ethical skills (or responsibilities) that a candidate must have to be successful in this position.
Add a section to the job description and label it with the heading Ethical Responsibilities. Include the following criteria within the list of ethical responsibilities:
? The four levels of ethics
? At least ten responsibilities
? A description of each responsibility
? A description of how each responsibility has ethical implications

Create a paper based on the following proposed topic to match the previous guidelines:

Proposed Topic:
Ethical responsibility of illegal music downloads and copyright infringement

Proposed Question:
The purpose of this paper is to discuss who should be punished for downloading illegal music. (Ex. Companies that actually share the music, parents, owner of the physical computer the music got downloaded on)

Discussion:
Illegal music downloads have been making the news for years, especially when large music companies go after individuals, regardless of whether the individuals were responsible. Downloading music is illegal, yet millions of people still do it every day. Ethically, downloading music is against the law, but it also harms the recording artist and record company, who own the rights to the song. Some people think that all these companies and artists make a lot of money, and that somehow justifies stealing music. How do you determine who is ultimately responsible for copyright infringement? (ex. the person downloading, the owner of the computer downloaded on, the application owners for the downloads, music industry for not having better anti-piracy measures...)

Answer the questions using 3-5 per question. Making a total of about 12 pages, not including the bibliography FOR EACH QUESTION PLEASE. Also each question needs to have 4-5 resources and have clear points, opinions and sources to back them up.

1. What are the cultural and societal influences on leadership and motivation?
2. What are the ethical responsibilities of a leader?
3. What power does a leader have? (or) What power does an effective leader use?

The assignment is essentially as follows and I am expected to put together an entire paper with particular "chapters" that answer each of these questions. Each answer to a question is a "chapter" and should be 3-5 pages in length and NEEDS to use 4-5 resources. The resources are extremely important in this assignment.

Each student will be required to create a notebook of learnings for the semester. There is no single required text. The student will use a multitude of resources to, in essence, create a text. The student will research two questions each week selected by the instructor, writing a three-to-five page summary of what was researched and learned. The research should utilize between three and five sources, split between academic, research based sources (e.g. textbooks), industry thought leader writings (e.g. periodicals such as Forbes), and pop press (e.g. blogs).

(1) Do successful, profitable corporations have a moral duty to make charitable contributions in

(2) Do successful, profitable corporations have an ethical responsibility to make charitable
contributions in an effort to give something back to the community? Why, or why not?
(3) If you said there was either an ethical or moral duty to make charitable contributions, how
does that duty affect the corporations duty to its shareholders to maximize profits?
or
If you said there was neither an ethical nor moral duty to make charitable contributions, then do
corporations owe any obligations to society, other than to obey applicable law?
For your paper, either at a traditional library or online, find and review at least 3 articles
concerning business ethics and corporate responsibility and incorporate them into your paper to
support your argument. (NOTE: Your citations should be to scholarly papers, articles, books,
and the like. Wikipedia.com does NOT count as a source.)
You should cite to at least 3 sources in your paper. (NOTE: Your citations should be to scholarly
papers, articles, books, and the like. Wikipedia.com does NOT count as a source.)
Your paper should be 3 to 4 pages long (excluding cover Page and excluding works cited page),
and be double spaced with 1 inch margins.
You should address each of the three questions listed above.
You may use either Word or Word Perfect.
Email your paper to me, as an attachment, no later than the due date in the Schedule of
Assignments.
